SketchPad for iPad, available soon

Just as so many other developers, the moment Apple announced the iPad I dropped (almost) everything else and started working on iPad versions of some of my applications. Sketch, which is still in development, seemed a fitting candidate and today I’m pleased to announce the iPad version will be available really, really soon.

SketchPad is a slimmed-down version of what I had been working on for the Mac and this is the primary reason I’ve been able to get this app out of the door so relatively quickly; they share a lot of code.

SketchPad 1.0 will launch with of course a vector tool, a much improved pen tool compared to DrawIt and Sketch, the standard bunch of shapes (oval, rectangles, stars etc) and boolean operations plus the ability to quickly align layers. Mind you we’re just getting started but I can already tell you that once Sketch for the Mac gets released, it’ll be able to open SketchPad’s documents and vice versa.

I’m really curious how Sketchpad will be received by all of you and how vector editing really works on a touch display. This is my first entry in the ‘touch market’ and I can’t wait to get my hands on an actual iPad – like many of you I presume. Sketchpad will be sold for $5.99 initially but I plan to raise the price as I bring more features from the upcoming Sketch to Sketchpad. If you have any initial feedback, I’d love to hear from you either here or on twitter.

Shame, wish you would focus on OS X where your products are starting to provide serious competition for an increasingly incompetent Adobe

Don’t worry about that. The Mac products are still coming along fine. I’m sure you’ll be impressed by Sketch for the Mac. :-)
