Introducing Review

It seems that contrary to popular belief, you cannot hide in plain sight. We had planned to announce our new iPhone application Review tonight before the world, but it seems people discovered the application before we were ready to announce it. So what is Review? Review is the quickest way for iOS interface designers to judge their mockups on an actual device.

The process is simple; Review your mockups by simply dragging them to the menubar icon on your Mac and they will sync with your iPhone over WiFi. Review is fully aware of the amazing Retina display on iPhone 4 and will scale mockups accordingly. Now you will able to see with 100% accuracy how your mockup will look; your images are not compressed in any way.

Review even has a few additional tricks:
- When displaying an icon-sized image it will render it exactly as it would appear on the home screen, with rounded corners and optionally the typical glow.
- As most designers will design their UI in Photoshop, by simple use of a hotkey, Review will grab the current Photoshop document you are working on, convert it to PNG and push it to the device for immediate viewing. It couldn’t be easier.

Review is available on the App Store for an introductory price of only $2.99. It does require a companion app on the Mac, Review Sync which is available at www.getreviewapp.com. This companion app requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

Review has been developed in cooperation with Kevin Kalle of qlear.nl.

Looks very nice. Super sexy zoom effect on the webpage.

Mach

Very easy to use and super useful for developers.
But I’m still looking forward to some functionalities like the ability to change the background color, zooming, panning.
And it often crashed running on my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.
Sync folders sometimes doesn’t work until I remove the device and add it again in the preferences window.

Pieter Omvlee

I’m sorry to hear about the crashes. As the app is intended for viewing mockups or icons, there’s no real need for zooming so I don’t think we’ll be adding that in a future update.

Ken

Where to get the Review app for the iPhone? I could not find it on AppStore.

Thx

Pieter Omvlee

It’s still available so I don’t know why you can’t find it. Our website (getreviewapp.com) should have the exact url

Mark Cracknell

Can you offer some support on this App? Having issues syncing and transferring – very hit and miss when / if it will work. Shame because when it works I found this useful.

Pieter Omvlee

I’m sorry to hear so, some people have been experiencing problems with Review, but they’ve proven difficult to reproduce.

Tiago Balas

I can’t figure what does dragging a folder to the menubar does, it doesn’t sync it. Should it? If no, why does it stay there in a list (which I had to figure out by myself how to delete them (alt+click)).
I love the app, but you should really consider some support site or a more comprehensive help section somewhere.

Pieter Omvlee

The mac and the iPhone should sync fine, if you have both running on the respective devices and if you have paired them in the Mac App’s preferences. Did you do all that?

Tiago Balas

Of course I did. It syncs fine. I was asking about the folders that are listed in the menu bar dropdown. ex:
http://www.eskema.org/stuff/grabs/68883f5d8f8578915a41120e82ae4972.png

They don’t sync, are they supposed to?

Tiago Balas

Hmm. forget it. it syncs. Not always though. had to restart the app and mac client..
It’s working fine now. :)

Robert

Review looks good. But it isn’t really working. It takes minutes for the iPhone 4 to recognize a new PNG, even when I push refresh. Sometimes it works, but mostly not.

No update since months. Just annoying for a paid app.

Is there any further development or bug fixing planned?
Or have you lost any interest for it?

Come on Pieter, thats a thing you have to deal with as a developer. Deliver the quality your app’s design and price are promising!

Pieter Omvlee

I’m aware that there are a few issues with the communication, and I am looking into them.
Apart from this bugfix I have little plans for further development as the product is too niche to really appeal to a wide audience

Thorsten

I’m really angry as the Photoshop Sync doesn’t work at all and as someone told above before the png drag’n'drop is just working sometimes (with a big delay). What did I pay for? Nice idea but please support the app!

Jeremy Le Van

Please support! Great product but definitely needs an update and bug fixes!!!

Dankje Pieter
