Fontcase 1.5 and a new website

Today is finally the time to release Fontcase 1.5 to the public. I’m happy to announce that Fontcase 1.5 incorporates the most-requested features such as auto-activation and duplicates detection. Of course Fontcase 1.5 is a free download as well.

Together with this update, we’ve restyled our website a bit. I wanted to make it easier for us to incorporate new changes in the future. While we were at it, I decided to make some cosmetic changes that I have wanted to make for a while. Please visit our website if you’re reading this from an RSS reader and admire the hard work of Jonnotie.

The blog was really due for an update and I think the new one looks infinitely better. I moved my blog to the bohemiancoding domain since all my posts are about its products anyway. I hope the RSS readers will pick up the new feeds. If you’re reading this, the transition went fine.

A bit more about Fontcase 1.5 then. Auto-activation does not require any plugins to be installed and should work for any application except – unfortunately – Adobe Fireworks. Apart from auto-activation and duplicates detection there’s now also automatic import of missing fonts, and an incremental export. I hope you’ll also notice the speed increase which we’ve been able to accomplish. If you’re running Mac OS 10.6, and at first Fontcase seems slower, don’t panic. We’ve found a better way of caching font previews and because of that, Fontcase is regenerating all cache files again. This should save you quite a lot of disk space since the new cache files are about a tenth the size. Users with large libraries will certainly appreciate this.

Those of you that have been reading this blog in hope of programming-related articles, I’ll happily refer you to a new little hobby of mine; 365Cocoa where I will – I hope – post a snippet of Objective-C code or a treatise on some topic every day, one year long.

Very nice new versions Pieter, for both Fontcase and the website!
Now that 1.5 has auto-activation, nothing retain people to finally move on and use this cool software ;-)

Chen Luo

The performance of 1.5 is much much faster! :)

Happy to hear you like the new 1.5 update. I’ve spent a long time speeding it up and I’m happy it paid off.

I may buy next year when I’ll be a student a fontcase licence, but I’m still hesitating. For example how the conversion from dollars to euro is made. Today 1€=0.80$ but lots of website use a 1€=1$ rate and I can accept it, but how come here it’s more expensive to pay in € than in $?

Loubna

Sorry, 1$=0.81€

Nevermind, obviously I can’t read correctly. Thank you for your app, expect me to buy a license this summer. By the way the design of the website is really good ;)

Pieter Omvlee

Just to make it clear, we have no influence on the conversions; that’s all handled by PayPal

(I posted to the GetSatisfaction forum, but then couldn’t find my question afterwards. I felt like dropped it in a black hole. Not finding an email address, I’m posting here.)

I just updated to 1.5.8 and can’t change the preview font size. The slider won’t slide, but if I click on the small or large A icons, the handle jumps to that end, but without changing the font size.

It’s been a while since I’ve used FontCase. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
